Children’s horse riding sessions take place every afternoon from 3pm to 7pm at our stables. The course is taught by experienced multilingual staff in small groups. Our horses are purebred Quarter horse, Paint, Argentine Criollo and Norwegian Fjord, and have all worked with children for many years doing these fun, interactive camps.
These camps are not all about riding, but rather about establishing a good relationship with horses and maximizing the time spent in the saddle to achieve the best results possible in a harmonious and friendly way. Kids of all levels (from the complete beginner through to the experienced rider) can gain from this fun course. Experienced riders can choose to top up their riding with extra lessons in the mornings if they wish.
Itinerary for Children’s Riding Camp in Tuscany
Day 1: Arrival at the farm
Day 2: Come down to the stables in the morning to talk to the instructors and have an introduction to the stables. At 3pm meet at the stables with a packed snack. Today you will meet all the horses, learn about the different horse breeds, western riding, and the sport of reining. We will prepare the horses together and have a lesson in the round-pen on Castellare’s wonderful school horses. Afterwards we will unsaddle the horses and take them back to their paddocks together.
Day 3: 3pm meet at stables. Bring horses in and prepare them together. Learn how to plait manes correctly, pick out hooves etc. Vaulting lesson on Josy our sweet fjord mare. Try riding bareback. Snack time together. Group riding lesson in the arena. Unsaddle horses.
Day 4: Meet at stables. Riding lesson in the arena together. Snack Break. More riding in the main arena. Group will be split into two parts, half the children will have intensive lunge lessons to better position, whilst the others will work in the main arena. Unsaddle horses.
Day 5: Trail Riding to the lake. Bring a packed picnic lunch and drinks. Pack horses with saddle bags and leave for an expedition down to the farm lake for a picnic for the afternoon.
Day 6: meet at stables 3pm Prepare horses Intensive riding all afternoon. Snack break in the middle. Preparation for tomorrows show.
Day 7: Meet at 3pm. Lesson together. Prepare horses for presentation (plaiting manes, washing up etc). Parents arrive at 5.30 for show. Children in group show parents what they have learnt over the week together. After presentation unsaddle horses and move to the lawn for presentation of diplomas followed by drinks and supper. Finish 7pm
